چکیده

Simple, e cient and accurate nite di erence methods are introduced for 3D unsteady viscous incompressible ows in the vorticity-vector potential formulation on non-staggered grids. Two di erent types of methods are discussed. They di er in the implementation of the normal component of the vorticity boundary condition and consequently the enforcement of the divergence free condition for vorticity. Both second order and fourth order accurate schemes are developed. A detailed accuracy test is performed, revealing the structure of the error and the e ect of how the convective terms are discretized near the boundary. The in uence of the divergence free condition for vorticity to the overall accuracy is studied. Results on the cubic driven cavity ow at Reynolds number 500 and 3200 are shown and compared with that of the MAC scheme. 1 [email protected] 2 [email protected]

Simple finite element method in vorticity formulation for incompressible flows

A very simple and eÆcient nite element method is introduced for two and three dimensional viscous incompressible ows using the vorticity formulation. The method relies on recasting traditional nite element method in the spirit of the high order accurate nite di erence methods introduced by the authors in [10]. Optimal accuracy of arbitrary order can be achieved using standard nite element or sp...

Conservative properties of finite difference schemes for incompressible flow

1. Motivation and objectives The purpose of this research is to construct accurate finite difference schemes for incompressible unsteady flow simulations such as LES (large-eddy simulation) or DNS (direct numerical simulation). Experience has shown that kinetic energy conservation of the convective terms is required for stable incompressible unsteady flow simulations. Arakawa (1966) showed that...

A Fast Immersed Boundary Fourier Pseudo-spectral Method for Simulation of the Incompressible Flows

Abstract   The present paper is devoted to implementation of the immersed boundary technique into the Fourier pseudo-spectral solution of the vorticity-velocity formulation of the two-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. The immersed boundary conditions are implemented via direct modification of the convection and diffusion terms, and therefore, in contrast to some other similar ...

Gauge finite element method for incompressible flows

A finite element method for computing viscous incompressible flows based on the gauge formulation introduced in [Weinan E, Liu J-G. Gauge method for viscous incompressible flows. Journal of Computational Physics (submitted)] is presented. This formulation replaces the pressure by a gauge variable. This new gauge variable is a numerical tool and differs from the standard gauge variable that aris...
